We’re sure you’ll be surprised at how discomfort-free you’ll feel during and after we nurse your tooth back to health.
Physical trauma or dental infection may require treatment to clear the infection from within the root canal chambers of a tooth. Your dentist will carefully clean out the infected decay causing the infection within the tooth and use a filling material to seal up the tooth to stop further bacteria from entering.
Depending on the position of the tooth and the extent of the infection, an inlay, onlay or crown can be made to go over the top, giving your tooth back its natural appearance.
Are there symptoms I should look out for?
If you have sustained serious trauma to a tooth, you should have it checked over as soon as possible, as there is a strong possibility that the tissues within your tooth may be dying.
Dental infections can also come about very gradually – you might not even notice any symptoms at all at home. Coming in for routine check-ups gives us the opportunity to regularly assess your teeth for any problems that might indicate the beginnings of a dental infection.
Some of the most common symptoms of an infected tooth include:
Can teeth repair themselves?
One of the design flaws of teeth is their inability to self-repair. The good news is, a root canal can stop a tooth that’s badly infected from needing to be taken out. The earlier you come in to see us after you notice any symptoms that worry you, the greater the possibility of the root canal procedure being a success.
