Airflow polishing applies a mixture of water, powder particles, and compressed air to your teeth. The application is gentle and even patients with sensitive teeth are always pleasantly surprised at how straightforward the process is.
Whilst we are able to reach the plaque that builds up along your gum line over time, there may be certain corners of your mouth where plaque has solidified into tartar, making it difficult to remove this using the traditional scale and polish cleaning method.
Airflow Polishing at a Glance
When else might I need Airflow Polishing?
We highly recommend Airflow polishing prior to treatment with braces, as it will maximise the possibility of your braces or Invisalign aligners remaining bacteria-free. This means you’re less likely to suffer problems like bad breath and decay during your treatment.
Many of our implant patients here at Welling Dental Studio opt for Airflow polishing to keep the implant site clean. This is extremely worthwhile as it will protect and help to prolong the life of your implant, making sure it doesn’t fall foul to peri-implantitis (this is the type of gum disease that affects implants).
What is plaque?
Plaque is the enemy of your tooth and gum health. In fact, once plaque begins to cause symptoms that are indicative of gum disease, you risk putting your oral health on the path to problems that could result in tooth loss.
Even people who take great care of their teeth are vulnerable to the build-up of plaque since it’s created every time we eat when the mouth breaks down foods. The acids within plaque can go on to cause enamel erosion and destroy supporting structures like gums and jawbone.
Airflow polishing is indispensable for getting to plaque that’s stuck in between your teeth. We highly recommend Airflow polishing if you are a smoker and if it’s been a while since your last hygiene clean appointment. Not only will this help to get your oral hygiene back on track, but deep stains will also be eliminated.
It’s also excellent for freshening your breath, which can give you much more confidence during your day-to-day interactions with others.
What’s the difference between Airflow Polishing and teeth whitening?
Both processes can improve the appearance of your teeth but in different ways. Airflow Polishing will get rid of the plaque which is causing staining along your gum line. It can also reverse some of the deep staining caused by smoking.
If you’re looking for a treatment that will fundamentally change the shade of your teeth, we highly recommend teeth with Pola Whitening and EnlightenTM Evolution, the most trusted teeth whitening brand on the market. This is available at our practice here in South East London.
